February Wishlist

Hello

Basic

1. Lime Crime Velvetines Liquid Lipstick in Suedeberry - Amazon £15.25
2. Rimmel Lasting Finish nail polish in Marshmallow Heaven - Boots £2.99
3. NARS Laguna Bronzer - Selfridges £26.00
4. Illamasqua Skin Base - Selfridges £27.00

1. How gorgeous? I love the packaging of the Velvetines range and Suedeberry is such a lovely colour.

2. I was so impressed with the Lasting Finish range from Rimmel that I want them all. Seriously. Purple is my favourite colour though so this was an obvious winner for me.

3. Never in a month of Sundays did I think I would be wanting a bronzer. I have always thought that I'm too pale for bronzer, but this apparently suits the pale and interesting among us.

4. I have heard so many good things about this foundation, I can't wait to get my hands on it. Luckily for me there is an Illamasqua counter in the Trafford Centre so that I can get shade matched, I really can't figure it out for myself.

Urban Decay Moondust - Zodiac | Review and Swatches #BBBBeautyBoxII

Hello

I think this is my favourite product that was included in the second BBBBeautyBox. I have only tried the Naked Basics eyeshadows previously and they are amazing so I had high hopes for this.

First of all - the packaging. It just feels like it is going to contain an amazing product. Usually I chuck the cardboard packaging away on these things but I can't bear to part with this just yet.

As you can see from the above, Zodiac is a greeny grey shimmery eyeshadow but feels so soft on application. I do worry about shimmery eyeshadows being scratchy on the eyes but I have had no problems with this. I'm not quite brave enough to wear this all over the lids, but I have been wearing as an eyeliner. It just adds that little bit of extra to the eyes, and as someone who wears bold glasses it is hard to get your eye makeup to make an impact.

Yes I know I look weird with no glasses on. As you can see it gives just the right amount of shimmer without being too OTT.

You can buy the single Urban Decay eyeshadows from here and they are available in a whopping 68 shades. They cost £14 each.

Empties #5

Hello

The stash is definitely reducing, slowly but surely. The latest five are:

  • Avon - French Lilac Bubble Bath
  • Schwarzkopf Gliss - Asia Straight Shampoo
  • Avon - Sugar Plum and Vanilla Shower Gel
  • Dove - Original Deodrant
  • Superstar perfume

French Lilac Bubble Bath - I'm pretty sure I have had all of the fragrances of these by now, and this one was one of the poorer scents for me. I don't know what I expected French Lilac to smell of but this just gave me a headache. The amount of bubbles that it produced were good though.
Repurchase: Not this scent.

Asia Straight Shampoo - A lady I used to work with swears by this, and she has gorgeous hair. So, being as logical as I am, I went to get some! It is quite hard to find as I think it may be an old line now but I found mine in Bodycare. I found this to be average, and it didn't leave my hair straighter than usual or easier to style. This is aimed at "rebellious, frizzy hair" which isn't me so maybe that's why I just found it average.
Repurchase: No.

Sugar Plum and Vanilla Shower Gel - I love this scent, it smells like cakes. This lathers up well and leaves you feeling clean and sparkling after using. For the price you can't go wrong either.
Repurchase: Definitely.

Dove Deodorant - I know what you're thinking, "why is she waffling on about a deodorant?". I am waffling on about it because it is magical. Literally. I have super sensitive underarms so I need something gentle but still effective, no one wants to be worrying about being a Sweaty Betty at all. As Dove contains moisturisers it is nourishing and soothing on the skin while claiming it can go for 48 hours. Obviously I can't comment on that - who even needs deodorant to last that long?
Repurchase: Always.

Superstar - This cost a meagre £3. Three British Pounds. So I wasn't expecting much from it. I got it from one of those makeup stalls that sell end of line makeup and discounted scents (display bottles with no boxes etc). Superstar smells exactly like Calvin Klein's Euphoria, but obviously at a much cheaper price. It lasts all day too, surprisingly.
Repurchase: Yes!

The Weekly Ramble #38

Hello

The weekly face:

Well hello there 7am tired face! This week has whizzed by again.

We took Karl back to the vets on Tuesday for his check up - he is completely fine hooray! Back to his cheeky little self.

Wednesday involved a trip to Costco and to visit my parents. Costco is a total nightmare, full of Sunday drivers trying to operate a trolley. Deary me.

On Thursday we were supposed to go to the Trafford Centre as I have a list as long as my arm and James wanted some new clothes, but a punctured tyre soon put an end to that. I'm hoping to get there next week as I seem to be running out of everything all at once.

Saturday I had a super lazy day as I wasn't feeling great, but some Disney films soon sorted me out!

Hope you have a had a good one.

Hask - Argan Hair Oil | Review

Hello

Last year I won a giveaway from the lovely Jenna and this hair oil from Hask was one of the prizes.

This was my first foray into the world of hair oils. I haven't tried them before because I thought they would make my hair greasy and weighed down. I'm not sure if this is a common misconception or if it is just me.

To use I apply a small blob (about a 5p) to the ends of towel dried hair and then blow dry as normal or leave to dry naturally.

Once dried it feels so soft and bouncy, people have even commented on it. Real life humans.

The only downside to this is that I don't know where you can buy it from! I have found it on Amazon here but I would like to know where you can buy it from as I can't find it in Boots or Superdrug.

Please let me know!

L'Occitane - Angelica Cleanser and Toner | Reivew #BBBBeautyBoxII

Hello

Firstly, shiny lettering on cylindrical packaging is not the one for photographing purposes.

In general, I love L'Occitane, they make amazing products. This I just couldn't get on with. I haven't used a gel cleanser for about 4 years because they are drying and cause havoc with my skin.

I have been using this as my morning cleansing routine, while sticking with using a balm cleanser in the evenings.

I apply this cleanser to my dry face in circular motions and then add a bit of water using my palm to get it to lather. To rinse off I use a Washi!, muslin or flannel (whatever is on the top of the pile realistically) and then pat dry using a towel.

I then finish with a bit of toner on a cotton round before applying my usual moisturiser.

This is what L'Occitane say:

Cleanser:
Fresh and delicate, Angelica Cleansing Gel transforms into a light and airy foam when combined with water. Enriched with water and essential oil of organic angelica, it softly removes make-up and impurities, while preserving the skin's hydrolipidic film, for perfectly clean and hydrated skin. Skin feels immediately soft and looks radiant.

Suitable for all skin types.
Dermatologically tested. Non-comedogenic.

Toner:
This alcohol-free face toner, enriched with angelica essential oil and water, moisturises, refreshes and cleanses the skin of impurities. After use, skin is soft, radiant and ready to absorb all the benefits of your daily skin care regimen.

Suitable for all skin types.
Dermatologically tested. Non-comedogenic.

As I said previously, gel cleansers tend to mess up my skin. This one hasn't! My skin feels lovely and soft after using this and my (hormonal) spots are soothed and are sent on their merry way.

The one dislike I have about this duo is the scent. It smells flowery and overpowering which disappointingly stays throughout the day. It actually makes me feel nauseous. It would be okay if the scent was only there for a short time but it really lingers.

Bizarrely, most of the reviews on the site are raving about the scent - so it could just be me.

You can purchase the Angelica range here, they are £16 each (200ml).

Have you ever used these? What are your thoughts?

Motivational Monday #2

Hello

I am that person that wants everything doing yesterday. In my working life I am a perfectionist so I am often frustrated that I don't have the "perfect" body.

I am trying to combat that way of thinking, as even slow progress is in fact progress. While the image above is kind of gross it puts it into perspective for me. "Only" indeed.

Weight to lose: 1 stone 6lbs
Loss this week:1lb

Only 1 stone 5lbs to go!

The Weekly Ramble #37

Hello

This week has flown by, I don't really feel like I have done anything. On a tangent, I have only just noticed that you can see my bra straps in that picture. Classy.

Work has been crazy hectic this week and I am exhausted, hurry up B12 injection and start working.

I have only made it to the gym once which quite frankly is shocking. But alas, tomorrow is a fresh start.

Karl was in the vets on Thursday again to have his teeth sorted out. It is so stressful knowing he is in pain and I can't do anything for him.

On Friday I finally picked up my giveaway prize! I have had it on order but have been finishing work after Debenhams has shut. There is still time to enter here.

Rimmel - Lasting Finish 045 Misty Jade | Swatches

Hello

For Christmas my forward thinking mother-in-law got my this nail polish as part of my present. I loved it as soon as I saw it, and I really have nothing else like it in my collection.

The shade Misty Jade is absolutely perfect for Spring! It took 3 coats to be opaque rather than the usual two, but as it's pretty I will let it slide. How shallow indeed.

Please excuse my obscenely green wall, it was the only room I could get any decent light. The formula claims to be a lasting finish which is perfect for me as I am always typing away so my nail varnish tends to suffer!

At a mere £2.99 from Boots/Superdrug I suggest you hot foot it to your nearest Rimmel counter, there are 17 shades to choose from.

Empties #4

Hello

I feel like I am finally making a dent in my huge stash of beauty products, yipee! The 5 most recent to be used up are:

  • REN - Clearcalm 3 Mask
  • SBC - Collagen Shower Gel
  • Clinique - Moisture Surge Face Spray
  • Maybelline - The Colossal Volum' Express Mascara Cat Eyes
  • Clinique - Moisture Surge

Clearcalm 3 Mask - I have already done a full review of this here but to recap it does what it promises, calms oily skin right down and reduces blemishes. It smells terrible, but it works.
Repurchase: Definitely.

Collagen Shower Gel - I love SBC, and this was no exception. 500ml of shower gel is slightly excessive though, I felt like the king of the world when I had used it all up (not even joking.) The smell of this is very subtle but girly, and is very moisturising for a shower gel.
Repurchase: Definitely, after using up my stash!

Moisture Surge Face Spray - This came with a free gift from Clinique but you can buy a full sized 125ml for a whopping £20. My colleague gave me this out of her free gift because she couldn't work out its purpose. I didn't use it to "hydrate my face throughout the day" or any of that malarkey, I used it as a toner instead. It was okay as a toner but I definitely wouldn't be spraying my face with it, who wants a wet face? I think it is trying to be like the Caudalie Beauty Elixir, which it isn't. I just don't get the point of this one honestly.
Repurchase: No.

Colossal Volum' Express Cat Eyes -  I like Maybelline mascaras in general, but this one I wasn't impressed with. I found the formula to be watery and needed a few coats so my lashes were black. I also wasn't a huge fan of the wand, or as they call it the "feline applicator". Who thinks of these things? It is a rubbery wand which I found scratchy. The wand did cover each lash though.
Repurchase: No.

Moisture Surge - This is actually James' so I asked him could he give me a few words on it... "it's alright yeah". Sigh. He swiped my Moisture Surge years ago now and has been re-buying it ever since.
Repurchase: Yes.

Motivational Monday #1

Hello

Regular readers will know that I am seriously trying to get back onto the healthy eating/fitness wagon. About 2 years ago, I lost 3 stone and got content. I have since then put 1stone 9lbs back on and I am determined to shift it - I thought if I could document my progress it might spur me on!

I find this helps me, I go to the gym at 6am (when it opens) and half my workout is done before I've even realised what I'm doing!

Weight to lose: 1 stone 9lbs
Loss this week: 3lbs

Only 1 stone 6lbs to go!

The Weekly Ramble #36

Hello

The weekly face:

Wow, my first full week back at work has really wiped me out!

This week has actually been quite uneventful, I got my new phone on Monday which I absolutely cannot stop playing with, it's quite sad really.

The main event of this week was reaching 100 followers on Bloglovin', I'm still in shock! I'm holding a little giveaway to say thank you, you can enter here.

On Thursday I had my B12 injection so I should be as good as new any day now, but that is why I look rather tired on the above photo.

I have been to the gym 3 times this week and pushed myself really hard to go the extra mile. I have also got the healthy eating back under control. I'm still scared for weighing myself this evening though - but desperate times call for these things.

Today I hope to spend catching up writing some blog posts and making the house look presentable. Working 6 days is not the one.

100 Follower Giveaway - Naked Basics Palette

*This giveaway has now ended*

Hello!

I know that in comparison to others 100 followers is a drop in the ocean, but to me it really means the world! I never thought I would reach 10 followers, and when I reached 100 I nearly fell off my chair. Literally.

Anyway, enough wanging on. I have purchased the Naked Basics palette by Urban Decay for one of my lucky readers to win! I chose this for my giveaway because I use it every single day without fail and thought it would be nice to give someone else the opportunity to try it out.

  • UK entries only please
  • You must be over 16 to enter
  • Good luck!

Radox - Muscle Therapy Bath Soak | Review

Hello

Back when I used to train regularly, I used to lift weights. A lot. And nothing gives you achy muscles like lifting weights. As I am getting back into my exercise regime I have rediscovered an old love of mine; the Muscle Therapy Bath Soak from Radox.

I would say that the scent leans towards masculine, but I personally love it. It is described by Radox as "a stimulating blend, with black pepper and ginseng to leave you feeling revived".

You simply pour some under warm running water and let it foam, you get quite a lot of bubbles considering it is only £1. It says on Boots' website that it should be £2 but I have never paid more than £1 for it.

I find this particularly good for muscles that are tight and achy, I think this is to do with the black pepper because it is warming.

Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray | Review

Hello

With all of the hype surrounding this surf spray I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I tend to have really flat hair that is quite fine so I am always looking for a bit of oomph that isn't a) ridiculous bouffant volume and b) low maintenance.

The purpose of this spray is to give "beachy hair", textured and not too polished.

I will start off by saying that this is not cheap and cheerful unfortunately, 125ml costs £21.50 from Boots which is more than I would normally pay, but I thought it would be worth it seeing as people seem to love it and get great results.

To use you "work through damp or dry hair; let dry naturally or blow-dry with a diffuser. Or on dry hair for detailing and adding lift at the roots. The less you touch it, the longer it will hold."

I let my hair dry naturally as much as possible anyway as I am trying to grow it, so I spray this throughout my hair and scrunch it a bit, then leave it to its own devices.

This is what my hair looks like without any product on it dried naturally:

And this was the result using the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray:

Apologies for no make up in either picture, don't want to be scaring you all away now do I!

I do like the effect that it gives but no way do I think it is worth over £20. I will be looking for a cheaper alternative as I do think that it gives a good finish/texture.

What surf/texturising sprays do you recommend?

The Weekly Ramble #35

Hello

The weekly face:
Seriously, how confusing are all of these Bank Holidays? I'm lost with what day it is. On Monday I went to work, there were only two of us in but it was still super quiet. My main accomplishment that day was putting the dots onto the holiday calender.

Tuesday James and I were off so we had a super lazy day and ate most of the Christmas chocolate that was left. I also thought about resolutions for the New Year. I never make any but I have this year and they are as follows:
  • Stop stressing about trivial things
  • Pay off the loan
  • Get back into some sort of exercise routine
  • Use up my small mountain of beauty products
Wednesday was New Years Day so we went to visit my Mum and Dad seeing as we were all off. I also decided that I will be doing a Project 365 this year on this blog. I just really like the idea of having a photo diary to look back on.

I was back in work Thursday and Friday and it was insanely quiet. Again.

Saturday I helped out in my Mum's shop - which has finally quietened down now the festive period is over - hooray! On a sour note, my new phone hasn't arrived and my old contract expires tomorrow. Deary me!

The Body Shop - Camomile Waterproof Eye & Lip Makeup Remover

Hello

Well that's a long title, who names these things really.

I bought this on a whim when The Body Shop had one of their 50% off sales on and I am so glad that I did. You may have read my disappointment around the L'Oreal Micellar Solution that it stings my eyes and the like so I thought I would give this a whirl.

When it settles it is split into two liquids, which you shake to activate and then pop onto a cotton pad and away you go. The dispensing nozzle is only small so you can control how much comes out really easily, which minimizes product waste.

I absolutely love this makeup remover, it is so gentle on the eye area and removes literally every scrap of mascara. The name Camomile may be putting you off, but it doesn't smell like camomile tea or much of anything really.

The Body Shop say:

This efficient make-up remover lifts away the most stubborn waterproof eye and lip make-up.
  • Removes waterproof mascara and lipstick
  • Gently removes all traces of make-up
  • Fragrance, colour and alcohol-free
  • Suitable for sensitive skin and contact lens wearers
Now I don't wear lenses anymore so I can't comment on that, but it really doesn't sting at all. It is £8 for 150ml which may seem like a lot but if you a) buy it when it's half price and b) only use it on the eye area it will last a long time.

I have been using the L'Oreal one for the rest of my face and they are working together like a dream.

Seriously, go buy it.
