March Wishlist

1. Sleek Make Up Brow Kit in Dark - Superdrug £8.49
2. MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Atomic - Superdrug £3.00
3. L'Occitane Verbena Shower Gel - L'Occitane £14.00
4. Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm - John Lewis £14.50

1. I love a strong brow, being so close to Liverpool it's pretty impossible to escape from up here. I have heard such good things about the Brow Kit from Sleek. Definitely being purchased come payday.

2. I can't believe these are only £3, I have read loads of glowing reviews on these and I like the sound of Atomic the best.

3. Oh Verbena, why are you so delicious? I love L'Occitane and I'm desperate to get my grubby mitts on this.

4. I have only tried one cleansing balm so far and I love it, so much so that I have bought a spare. I really fancy trying this one as it is only £14.50 and recommended by the queen of skincare herself, Caroline Hirons.

What are you lusting after this month?

Etude House Sweet Apricot Candy Nail Polish | Swatches

Way back in September I picked up a nail polish from Etude House - Lemon Sherbert from their Sweet Treats collection (review here) and have wanted the other three ever since. Finally I saw the Apricot one knocking about on eBay, after a furious bidding war (on your bike eBay snipers!) it was mine.

Firstly, how cute is the packaging? Why aren't all beauty products packaged to look like deserts? This is a pale peach polish with green, red, lilac, white, pink and gold glitter pieces suspended within the formula. This took three coats to get to a decent level of opacity and glitter and I think it gives quite a subtle sparkly look (if that is even a concept).

The brush is decent and the formula dries quite quickly. I definitely want the other two now!

Soap and Glory Clean on Me Shower Gel | Review

As you may have gathered by now, I am a huge Soap and Glory fan. Just realised how cool I am actually typing that.

So, as with everything, the packaging is what you notice first. It fits in with the whole line but doesn't have any bizarre made up science claims on this one, which is a shame, they make me giggle. I like the fact that it has a pump dispenser, less faffing about is always a bonus.

Clean On Me has the traditional Soap and Glory "pink" scent which I personally love, not too girly I might add. Strangely, the bottle doesn't contain a list of ingredients so lord knows what is actually in it.

As far as shower gels go this is very moisturising. I don't always bother with moisturiser but with this you can definitely skip that step!

You can buy the huge 500ml version for £6 from Boots, but they also do a travel size if you don't want to commit to such a large bottle. The travel size is £2.50 for 75ml.

Motivational Monday #7

As I mentioned yesterday the 30 Day Shred is making my muscles hurt insane amounts so I thought today's inspiration should come from the lady herself.

Finding the willpower is 80% of the struggle I think. It is for me anyway. Doing the 30 Day Shred is perfect for me as it takes 20 minutes a day and only requires a mat and some hand weights.

Another tool that I always forget to mention to help track weight loss is the My Fitness Pal app. It basically works out how many calories you should be eating and lets you track your meals. I know this is common sense but I'm less likely to eat something if it will take me into the "red".

Weight to lose: 1 stone 5lbs
Loss this week: 2lbs

Only 1 stone 3lbs to go!

The Weekly Ramble #42

The weekly face:

Another week, another Karl drama. We had to take him to the vets again this week for his back molars filed down - it hasn't even been a month since he last had them done the poor lamb. We saw a new vet this time and he recommended taking him to an exotic vet to get them removed completely. I can't believe this hasn't been suggested to us before. We will be looking into that next week. Thankfully he seems to be back to his chirpy little self, but slightly clingier than normal.

On Friday I had to go to Manchester centre for work - I have no idea how people commute every day, it was soul destroying. I suppose it being half term didn't help. When I got home I was irritated, cold and had a caffeine headache - definitely not for me.

On Saturday I manned the shop on my own which wasn't as stressful as I imagined. Mum and Dad come back from their holiday today so I can't wait to see them later!

Fitness update: I think the 30 Day Shred has finished me off, I have never been as sore in all of my life.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lip Balm Stain - Rendezvouz | Review and Swatches

I often find my self perusing the aisles of Boots to see if anything tickles my pickle, and this little beauty caught my eye.

The Just Bitten Kissable range are in the chubby stick/crayon packaging so you don't need to sharpen them, simply twist up and you are good to go.

Rendezvouz caught my eye as it is a gorgeous orangey red shade which isn't too over the top, perfect for work in my humble opinion.

As this is quite a balmy texture you can have it very sheer or build it up a bit more if that is more your style. I do find that I need to prep my lips quite well before using this as it highlights any flaky patches (lovely I know.) on my lips.

The scent is a very faint peppermint which I personally really like, makes a change from synthetic vanilla.

The glossy finish of this lasts for about 2 hours but once the gloss has gone it leaves a subtle stain on the lips.

Have you tried any of the Just Bitten range?

CND Vinylux Week Long Nail Polish | Swatches and Review #BBBBeautyBoxII

I had never heard of CND before using these two products and I have been really impressed with them so far.

The idea behind the Vinylux polishes is that they give a gel like effect on the nails with no chipping and have a high shine to them.

The shade that I have, Tinted Love, is a gorgeous oxblood shade that would work well all year round.

CND say:
VINYLUX™ is a breakthrough polish system that endures a week of fashion perfection…without a base coat! Exposure to natural light secures the patent-pending technology, creating an enduring, long-lasting polish. While ordinary polishes become brittle and deteriorate over time, VINYLUX dries naturally to a flawless finish and strengthens its resistance to chips over time.

The wear time is about 6 days on me, which is one day longer than a normal polish for me personally. I think it would be the 7 days if I didn't type for a living.

As with most other nail polish brands this takes two coats and then the topcoat. I think the trick is applying the topcoat properly which makes the polish chip resistant.

You can buy CND Vinylux nail polishes from Nail Polish Direct for £9 ish each. I would like to try some more shades as they have a great selection of colours (over 60!)

Have you ever tried anything from CND?

Motivational Monday #6

Again, so impatient. I have been the typical excuse maker this week so I wasn't expecting a great result from today's weigh in.

The Weekly Ramble #41

The weekly face:
Wow, after having a week off it doesn't take long to get back into the swing of things. I still don't think I will ever enjoy the 6am alarm though.

Nothing especially exciting has happened this week, roll on Spring I say. I'm too shattered to be doing anything after work at the moment.

You may have also noticed my new profile picture thingy - thank you Nora for drawing her for me!

On Wednesday I finally placed my order for the 30 Day Shred and ordered a weight tree (it's so cute!). I figure on the days I can't be bothered with the gym I can just do that instead.

Friday of course was Valentine's Day. I got James a super romantic present of a cake from Waterfields for the grand total of 80p - who said you need to break the bank? It appears we had a similar idea as I came home to a cupcake.

Also on Friday I picked the winner for my giveaway! Congratulations Katie - enjoy ^.^

The "Get to Know Me a Little" Tag

Danielle of Underland to Wonderland has tagged me to do this (thanks for including me ^.^) and I thought it was quite interesting so here we go! If you fancy doing this tag then please do - I don't like tagging people just in case I leave anyone out accidentally! I do share quite a lot of my personal life on my blog but if you feel like being a bit extra nosey then here you go:

1. Do you have a middle name?
No. I always wanted one though and in Primary School I told people that it was Julia. Typing that out has made me realise I was an oddbod from such a young age.

2. What was your favourite subject in school?
Definitely Maths. I wanted to be a Maths teacher when I grew up.

3. What's your favourite drink?
Tea. I get a proper headache on the go when I haven't had any!

4.What's your favourite song at the moment?
Not so much "at the moment" but Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. It was the song that we had our first dance to at the wedding. I say dance, we mainly just swayed about a bit with huge daft grins.

5.What would you name your children?
Bizarrely, I don't want children but I do have names "just in case". Emily for a girl and Christopher for a boy.

6. Do you participate in any sports?
I like to play rounders in Summer, I'm pretty rubbish at it but I enjoy it.

7. What's your favourite book?
This is so hard! I don't think I can actually pick just one. I read loads of books.

8. What's your favourite colour?

9. What's your favourite animal?
Karl! (he bullied me into saying that)

10. What's your favourite perfume?
Chloe - too expensive for every day wear though!

11. What's your favourite time of the year?
I'll say Autumn, not too hot and not too cold. Plus September means it's my birthday - hooray!

12. Have you been out of the country?
Mainly when I was younger, I have visited Spain, Greece, America, Holland, Germany and France.

13. Do you speak any other languages?
I can speak Northern, does that count? No I really struggle trying to learn new languages, I know a bit of German but not enough to get by.

14. Do you have any siblings?
I have an older brother called Tony.

15. What's your favourite shop?

16. What's your favourite food?
Pizza. Easily.

17. What's your favourite movie?
The Dark Knight Rises.

18. What are some of your favourite TV shows?
Criminal Minds
New Girl
Game of Thrones
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
The Following

19. What phone do you have?
iPhone 5S

 20. How tall are you?

21. Any pets?
Just Karl

22. Any kids?
I'm married to a big kid if that counts.

23. If you weren't you, would you be your friend?
Honestly, I don't know. I'm quite introverted and don't do the "normal" things people my age do such as clubbing and stuff.

24. What's the first thing you notice about someone?
This is going to sound horrendous. Their shoes. Not for snobbery reasons but because I like to see if I can tell where they are from. I like shoes.

25. What is your eye colour?
26. Scary movies or happy endings?
Happy endings, I'm too much of a wuss for scary films.

27. Favourite smells?
Mechanical smells (it's what my Dad smells of!) and licorice.

28. Do you have any special talents?
I make a cracking brew.
29. Where were you born?
Billinge Hospital - which no longer exists.

30. What are your hobbies?
Reading, blogging, baking, gaming in general, getting tattoos and chasing Karl about.

Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes - Whopping Willow | Review and Swatches

Seriously, who names these things?! I love Clinique's makeup and was absolutely delighted to win Whopping Willow in Bethany's giveaway.

Whopping Willow is a coppery olive green shade with a hint of shimmer. Applying this is an absolute dream as it just glides onto my eyelids with no pulling or discomfort. The creamy formula lasts all day without creasing (with a primer) and Whopping Willow is a subtle enough shade for every day use.

I love the packaging of the Chubby Sticks as you just twist the products up instead of sharpening them, perfect if you tend to do your makeup on the go.

I would happily pay £17 for another one of these from Clinique, I have my eye on Ample Amber next!

P.S. I keep wanting to type Womping Willow - such a Harry Potter geek.

La Roche-Posay Redermic R | Review #BBBBeautyBoxII

At the grand old age of 24 I don't think I am quite ready for anti-aging products just yet, so I offered this to my good friend Tricia for her to try.

Tricia is in her late 40s and has some visible wrinkles - so she is the perfect target audience for Redermic R by La Roche-Posay.

Upon application this felt very smooth and calming on the skin, with no adverse reactions. La Roche-Posay state that this is hypoallergenic and paraben free so suitable for even the most sensitive souls.

Redermic R aims to target lines and wrinkles, dark spots and to even the skin tone. Tricia however has found no visible improvement even though she has been using for 3 months. A little does go a long way however as she still has loads of the product left.

Tricia would not pay £28 for this as she doesn't feel that it works for her. You can purchase this from Boots.

What anti-aging skincare brands would you recommend?

Motivational Monday #5

How much easier would exercising be if the gym provided a T-Rex?

The Winter months are the hardest to stay motivated for me, I just want to sleep and live in my PJs - so this week I have been throwing my kettlebells around instead of hitting the gym.

Weight training is my preferred method of exercise rather than cardio, I feel like I can actually see my body changing instead of the numbers on the scales.

Weight to lose: 1 stone 2lbs
Change this week: +2lbs

Only 1 stone 4lbs to go!
I am surprised that this has been my first gain since I have started logging my progress - slightly gutted but nothing I can't rectify.

The Weekly Ramble #40

The weekly face:
This week we have been off work! I haven't had a full week off since September I think it was so I have been so glad of a break.

Monday was spent catching up on my NVQ assignments and doing some serious kettlebell exercises. I was still hurting on Thursday.

On Tuesday I finished up my NVQ tasks and sorted the house out. I have no idea how two people can be so untidy at times.

Wednesday was spent running errands that I never get round to doing and taking some blog photos due to the actual daylight being available.

Thursday we went to the cinema to watch the second Hobbit. I really didn't enjoy the first one, it seemed a whole lot of film for a whole lot of nothing to happen in it. Also, no eye candy to distract me either! For all I am total nerd the whole Lord of the Rings shebang has never appealed to me. The second one was so much better than the first one - hooray! I am also curious to know what they did to Thorin's hair to make it look so good.

On Friday we ran some more errands and had a bit of a TV day. Bliss!

Saturday was my Mum's birthday! Happy Birthday Mumma (she doesn't read my blog - but thought I would give her a shout out anyway). I got her a box of L'Occitane goodies, a fluffy cardigan that she has wanted for ages, a Kindle voucher and a rose plant for being a good egg throughout the year. Unfortunately it was back to work on Saturday, but not too bad because there was Birthday cake :).

Today will be my usual Sunday - food shop, ironing, cleaning the house. It doesn't sound exciting but I get to spend the day with James so that's a bonus (sometimes.)

Empties #6

Another 5 have bit the dust:
  • Marks and Spencer - Lemon Verbena Foam Bath
  • Lush - Ocean Salt Face Scrub
  • Avon - Super Drama Mascara
  • Collection - Illuminating Touch Concealer
  • Lush - Christmas Eve Bubble Bar

Lemon Verbena Bubble Bath -  This was my first foray into Marks and Spencers own range of bubble baths and I was quite disappointed. I love verbena, it is my favourite scent but this was so faint I could barely smell it. It didn't foam very well either.
Repurchase: No.

Ocean Salt Face Scrub - I love this scrub! It smells delicious and smooths my skin in no time. Full review here.
Repurchase: Yes after I have used up everything else.

Super Drama Mascara - This was okay, nothing special. I received this as a free gift with something so I can't complain really. Lasts all day and doesn't give the dreaded panda eye.
Repurchase: Probably not - I don't think I have ever bought the same mascara twice.

Illuminating Touch Concealer - I think this concealer is amazing on under eye circles, it works by using light reflecting particles to stop the area looking as tired. All of the writing has rubbed off and that annoys me, but doesn't affect the product. Full review here.
Repurchase: Already have.

Christmas Eve Bubble Bar - Oh Lush, why do you take all of my money? I love this bubble bar, it is really relaxing and produces a good amount of bubbles. I split this in two so I could have two baths out of it - hooray for being frugal.
Repurchase: Yes!
